
The national charity, Crimestoppers has reached its 23rd Anniversary this year.
1. Over 100,000 arrests and charges have been made.
2. Over 1.2 million actionable calls have been received.
3. More than £114 million of goods have been recovered.
4. More than £202 million of drugs have been seized.
5. Around 21 people are arrested every day as a result of information given to Crimestoppers.
6. 27 cases are cleared up every day as a result of information given to Crimestoppers.
7. One person every nine days is charged with murder as a result of information given to Crimestoppers.
8. One in five murders in London is solved thanks to information from Crimestoppers.
9. In 1988, Crimestoppers received just under 5000 calls with useful information – last year, over 60,000 pieces of such information were received.
10. Since 1988, 914 people have been charged with murder/attempted murder with the help of Crimestoppers information.
11. The ‘Most Wanted’ section of the website established in 2006 has already resulted in 1069 criminals being arrested.
12. 38 fugitives believed to be on the run in Spain have been arrested as a result of the 50 appeals launched in the crime campaign, Operation Captura.
13. The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) Most Wanted website was designed with the help of Crimestoppers. 75 per cent of convicted child sex offenders posted on the site have been found.
14. Crimestoppers’ website www.crimestoppers-uk.org receives an average of 100,000 unique visitors every month.
15. There is a Crimestoppers 24/7 call bureau ensuring calls can be answered around the clock, 24 hours every day.
16. Around 40 per cent of the information Crimestoppers receives is via the online giving information form on our website.
17. Last year Crimestoppers launched its new youth brand Fearless and website fearless.org where young people can get non-judgemental advice on crime issues that affect them and they can provide information about crime anonymously.
18. In 2008 Crimestoppers launched its first domestic violence campaign appealing for third parties to pass on information.
19. In 2008 Crimestoppers launched a text number to receive information about people carrying knives in schools and colleges.
20. Crimestoppers has over 460 people volunteering in their spare time to help fight crime in the UK.
21. Crimestoppers has established the Integrity Line for private companies to pass on information about crime and wrong-doing in their industry.
22. Crimestoppers UK developed a Caribbean Most Wanted website, launched in November 2009.
23. This year, the charity has now expanded its work to help people protect their valuables and deter thieves with the launch of a new product; Crimestoppers Property Protector.
