COUNTRYSIDE WATCH

Membership of Countryside Watch In Leicestershire & Rutland is FREE

Countryside_watch

Countryside Watch is a scheme set up by the police to help prevent rural crime and identify and catch criminals in rural Leicestershire and Rutland.

It is specifically designed to address the needs of farmers, land owners, horse owners, other rural industries and those living in rural area by helping to improve security and developing effective communication between these groups of people.

For more detailed information about rural crime, more advice on what security measures can be taken and the Countryside Watch scheme, contact your local crime prevention officer through your local police station on Leicester (0116) 222 2222.

THEFT OF CALVES

On Monday 16th of June, Harborough police received a report of some livestock which had been stolen from the area of Burton Overy on the S16 (Harborough North) beat.

A total of 5 calves were taken from a field along with about a ton of scrap metal. During the previous day a red Sherpa type van and a white Ford Transit type flat bed truck were reported having been seen in the area in suspicious circumstances.

Harborough and Lutterworth police would urge all our Countryside Watch members to be alert to these 2 vans and to report any suspicious vehicles, persons or activity to the police immediately by phoning 0116 222 2222.

Consideration should also be given to the security of fields and barns where livestock of any kind are being kept.

For further advice on this or any other policing issue, please contact either myself or PC 1010 Chris Hill (Agricultural and Wildlife Officer) by phoning 0116 222 2222 and leaving a message using the officers collar number when prompted.

Please pass this message on to as many people as possible.

Your assistance is appreciated.

    Secure your fertiliser
    Secure your fertiliser
The National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) has launched a ‘Secure Your Fertiliser’ website, aimed at the farming and growing community.

Fertiliser has been misused by terrorist groups to make explosive devices for many years and the importance of securing fertiliser for use in the farming and growing community cannot be underestimated.

The site provides information and advice for farmers, growers, land-owners and farm staff about the rationale behind securing fertilisers and offers cost-effective guidance as to how to achieve this.
