Kingswood Area Neighbourhood Watches

Kingswood Area Neighbourhood Watch(KANW) is located in the Western Park area of Leicester, (LE3 0.Postcode area)
KANW is a group of 5 registered neighbourhood watches covering 360 residential and 3 commercial properties
The roads covered by KANW are Ainsdale Road (2NWs)Dorchester Road;Kingswood Ave;Oakthorpe Ave and part of Wyngate Drive (119-151)

Many of the homes that have gardens backing on to the railway line have in the past been vulnerable to burglary. Most have now installed secure fencing and many have taken advantage of the initative by Braunstone Local Policing Unit of free Smartwater to mark and protect their valuable contents.
During February 2008,following several years of representation by the NW and the city police, Network Rail have, at long last, installed 8ft security railings along the railway embankment and over the footpath bridge between Boynton Road and Ainsdale Road. From a safety aspect the railings have stopped tresspassing on the railway line but more importantly to NW residents, it has secured the rear of properties that back onto the line and also stopped the railway line being used as a rat run by criminals.

OUR STREET EVENT BANNER

Below - GETTING BUSY - SOME EARLY VISITORS
Our Annual Street Event, held on 24th June 2006, attracted well over 100 visitors. The sales of bric-a-brac,raffle tickets, participation in games and childrens competitions, and sales of refreshments, raised a substantial amount. This boost to NW funds will cover all our costs over the next 12 months. Both our police beat officers attended and they drew the raffles.
This annual event makes a major contribution to raising community spirit and the bonding of neighbour relationships,so essential to a caring community.

8. No Cold Caller Zone (NCCZ)
KANW has made a succesful application to the Leicester City Council Western Park/Westcotes/Braunstone -Rowley Fields Area Committee for funds to cover the cost of setting up the area as a NCCZ. Now that funding has been agreed plans to introduce the scheme are being concluded for early implimentation.

September 2007
The introduction of No Cold Calling Zones across the Neighbourhood Watch area is going to be our contribution to "Not in My Neighbourhood Week" 18-21 October 2007

The area covered by the neighbourhood watch group is quite large, involving 5 roads and 360 homes. Because only a small part of Wyngate Drive is included in the NW area, that is not being included in the NCCZ, but it may well benefit as a spin off anyway.
March 2008
The whole of the Neighbourhood Watch, excluding the part of Wyngate Drive, was officially launched as a No Cold Calling Zone with effect from 1st March 2008.

2008 C0MMUNITY EVENT

Unable to hold our Street Event at our normal venue, the committee decided to hold a Community Event at St.Annes Church Hall on 21st June 2008. This location is outside our Neighbourhood Watch area,up a hill and ten minutes walk away.
On this occasion we also decided to invite residents of the Letchworth Road area NW to call in at the event.
With 12 excellent value sponsored prizes in the raffle, loads of home made cakes, jams etc, hundreds of books and videos for sale; terrific range of prizes in the adult and childrens tombola, a Biffa recycling information display, a lovely display of flowers, plants in a separate outside gazebo, and of course, a seated area for chatting while enjoying the teas/coffee and cream/jam scones,we had to hope that residents would be attracted to the venue.
We didn't need to worry. This event turned out to be just about the best attended since we have held these events, in spite of constant drizzle!

This very successful event is our contribution to the National Neighbourhood Watch Week.
