The Police Authority ensures that an efficient and effective policing service is provided for the people of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. The members of the authority work closely with the Chief Constable of Leicestershire Constabulary who has overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Force.
The Police Authority is an independent body responsible for overseeing the Constabulary via its 17 members and holds the Chief Constable to account. Nine members are councillors drawn from Leicestershire County Council (five members), Leicester City Council (three members) and Rutland County Council (one member). Three members are magistrates appointed by the Leicestershire Magistrates' Courts Committee. The remaining five are independent members from the community who have been selected following an interview process.
