  • Government Review of Neighbourhood Watch

A paper setting out the context for the policy review of the Government’s strategy for Neighbourhood Watch is being carried out by the Home Office (Document NSGWI/08/16). Use the link below to download the Review.

Four key questions, the comments on which would inform the Home Office’s review are:

    i) How can we make Neighbourhood Watch relevant and accessible to a wider range of people?

ii) How can we enable people in ‘hard pressed’ areas to get involved in Neighbourhood Watch activities?

iii) What new ways of doing things—activities, publicity, etc.—could be used to boost involvement?

iv) What are the barriers to maintaining a group and how do we address these?

The Home Office has asked for consultation from local, County and Regional NHW groups.

Please could you discuss this with your relevant groups and forward any responses to me for collation by 12th September 2008, to mhnwsg@ntlworld.com or mktharb.community@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk

    Regards

Neighbourhood Watch Purpose Statement

The Home Office, ACPO and Local Government Association, together with other stakeholders and Neighbourhood Watch representatives have drafted a new Neighbourhood Watch Purpose Statement. This Purpose Statement represents a step forward in clarifying the purpose of Neighbourhood Watch and the levels of support Neighbourhood Watch can expect from a range of bodies including the Police Service. Overall, this should help to improve the consistency of support to Neighbourhood Watch across the Country.
