FREE Public Liability Insurance cover for ALL Police registered Neighbourhood Watch schemes in Leicestershire & Rutland.
This free Public Liability Insurance has been designed to allow Schemes / Associations and volunteers to carry out their legitimate roles with protection for their liability and without fear of personal loss.
Ministers have now approved the continuation of the provision of Public Liability Insurance for registered NW schemes and the new policy begins on 1st April 2008.

The Home Office public liability insurance covers the recognised "community activities" of individual members of all police registered NHW groups.
Community activities are defied as:-
Attending conferences and exhibitions
Group and association meetings
House meetings
Police liaison
Poster, literature and leaflet distribution
Stallholder at boot sales/jumble sales/fetes /fairs
Sign erection and maintenance, including signs whilst erected, provided the lower edge of any sign is not less than 2.1 meters above the footway
It excludes
Car window etching
Fund raising activities other than above
House or pet watch
Installation siting or maintenance of any:-
Security locks, devices or equipment
Intruder or fire alarms
Fire safety equipment
Property marking
Individual members do not have to register or do anything if they are part of a group.
If a group is not part of an area or county scheme they will need to register both with the police and separately with the insurance company.
Where NHW members are carrying out activities under the direction of police staff, even if a police representative is not present, it is our understanding that they are fully covered by the police public liability insurance.
